High-level Chinese delegation lead by Zhou Yongkang arrive at Kathmandu

Zhou Yongkang, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), arrived here on Tuesday to kick off an official good-will visit to Nepal.

In a written statement released upon his arrival at the airport, Zhou spoke highly of the progress in China-Nepal relations in recent years, stressing that his visit aims at enhancing mutual trust, promoting friendship and expanding cooperation between the two neighbors.

Zhou said he looks forward to exchanging views with leaders of the Nepalese government and political parties on China-Nepal ties, inter-party relations and mutual concerns between the two sides to push forward the comprehensive partnership of cooperation between Beijing and Kathmandu.

Zhou, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and also secretary of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the CPC Central Committee, is expected to meet with Nepalese President Ram Baran Yadav, government officials and leaders of Nepal's major political parties during his three-day stay here.

The visit is the highest level visit from China to Nepal in the past eight years. Zhou is one of the top ten leaders of the Chinese Communist Party. The 60-member delegation led by Zhou also includes three assistant ministers.

The delegation will hold talks on economic cooperation and sign at least six agreements with Nepali authorities on loan and economic cooperation.

Nepal is the first leg of Zhou's five-nation Asian tours, which will also take him to Laos, Cambodia, Tajikistan and Mongolia.
