Barefoot Clinics teaching acupuncture in Nepal

Written By Pbc on Tuesday, 16 August 2011 | 05:33

Barefoot Clinics is an NGO that creates free acupuncture clinics in remote and impoverished areas of India and Nepal. The focus is on empowering local people to provide free healthcare within their communities. There are now 4 free clinics in Nepal.

Suraj Dhital was inspired to become a doctor after seeing a painting of a bare-foot doctor in China in a magazine when he was a young boy growing up in Nepal. He went to Shanghai to study medicine and returned as a doctor to Nepal where he started applying the concept of bare-foot doctors. Now, thanks to wireless connectivity and the internet, he provides training to bare-foot doctors in remote parts of Nepal and examines patients through video conferencing.
