Nepal’s population 26.6 million: preliminary results -National Population Census-2011

Nepal’s population has reached 26,620,809, according to the preliminary results of the National Population Census-2011 made public by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) on Tuesday. The 11th National Population Census, conducted from June 17 to 27 all over the country, found that the annual growth of population in Nepal is 1.4 percent. The national population census of 2001 had shown that Nepal’s population was 23,751,423, with the annual growth rate of 2.25 percent. According to the preliminary results, the population of female in Nepal is 7,65,947 (2.88 percent) more than the male. While the population of male in Nepal is 12,927,431 (or 48.56 percent of the total population), the population of female in the country is 13,693,378 (or 51.34 percent of the total population). Altogether 56,49,984 families live in 47,69,000 houses and buildings all over the country. Similarly, national average household size has also decreased from 5.44 in 2001 to 4.70 in 2011. According to the results, Tarai constitutes 50.15 percent of the population of Nepal while hill constitutes 43.1 percent and mountain 6.75 percent. The absent population of Nepal was found to be 1.92 million against 0.762 million in 2001.
