Moved by the plights of the victims of human trafficking, an American filmmaker is shooting her film “Brave Girl” in Nepal.

The short film aims at exploring con artists of Indian sex industry through the lens of a young Nepali girl on her journey from Nepal to an Indian brothel.

Binod Adhikari, a Nepali documentary maker, is the producer of the film. Erin Galey and producer Adhikari had already spent months in researching the story, casting, and location scouting.

Galey, during her Nepal trip a year ago, was touched by the woeful plights of innocent Nepali girls in rural Nepal who are sold off to brothels in India. She made up her mind to make the film after meeting some courageous Nepali women who have been rescuing their fellow countrywomen from brothels.

The film revolves around a 13-year-old girl named ‘Bumika’ and her friend “Krishna” who tries to sell off her to an Indian brothel.

Galey had visited Nepal four times to select shooting spots. Shooting of the film is starting in the three main locations of Nepal from September—Kathmandu, Chitwan and Birgunj.

Brave Girl by Erin Galey ‘10 (MFA, Kanbar, Film) is set to begin production in September in Nepal. Produced by Brett Joffe ‘12 (MFA, Kanbar, IMP), the crew comprises Tisch Asia students, alumni and Tisch Alumni from New York City.
