CAN names team of qualifer

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) today announced a 14-member squad for the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup Qualifier to be held in Ireland from July 28 to August 9.

The team will be led by Prithu Baskota with Rahul Kumar BK his deputy. The team includes allrounder Bhuwan Karki, wicketkeeper Subhash Prasad Khakurel, Avinash Karn, Krishna Karki, Naresh Budhayer, Faizlur Rehman Khan, Rajesh Pulami Magar, Sagar Pun, Rupesh Kumar Shrivastav, Subendu Pandey, Nischal Pandey and Pradeep Airee.

Amrit Shrestha, Amit Shrestha, Amit Dahal and Jitendra Kumar Mukhiya have been named as reserves. Jagat Tamata will coach the team in Ireland while CAN member Chatra Prasad Adhikari has been appointed the team manager. Prithu had guided Nepal to a runner-up finish in the ACC U-19 Elite Cup tournament in Thailand last year that opened the ICC Under-19 World Cup gates for Nepal.

Nepal will take on Afghanistan – a side Nepal lost against in the ACC U-19 Elite Cup final in Thailand – in the inaugural day before playing against Scotland the next day in the 10-team event where the teams rounding up in the top six will enter the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup finals.

Kenya will be Nepal’s next opponent on July 31 before facing Vanuatu on August 1. The team meets Canada on August 3 followed by a match against Namibia on August 5. After the match the against Ireland on August 6, they play Papua New Guinea the next day and round up their campaign with a match against the United States of America on August 9.
