Nepal’s Sudip Kulung Rai won the Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon on Sunday. The 23-year old from Pokhara, who had won the Ultra-marathon earlier this year in his home town, timed 3:45:39 to win the men’s open event, which started from Khumbu Ice Fall (5,364m) and ended at Namche Bazaar (3,440m). Ram Kumar Rajbhandari (3:45:06) and the 2008 winner Deepak Raj Rai (3:50:51) finished second and third. Poland’s Sylwia Kaskowiee timed 5:34:06 to win the foreign category title ahead of Christopher Suggit of the UK and Tomaz Kulinski of Poland. A total of 105 runners — 65 foreigners and 40 Nepalese — participated in the high altitude marathon.
