A LIMERICK man is literally on top of the world after becoming the youngest person in the Republic to conquer Mount Everest.
History-making Mark Quinn, 27, from Rhebogue, reached the summit at 8am on Saturday local time.
At the summit, he placed a badge of the Shane Geoghegan Trust in the snow, in memory of the murdered Garryowen player.
He is hoping to raise €30,000 for the charity, raises funds for youth programmes in the city.
There were celebrations in the city as friends and family of Mark toasted his safe and successful journey.
Proud mum Fiona Quinn said she and her husband Ger are “very proud of his determination.”
“We really can’t wait to see him now. The last few days have been an anxious time, but we’re absolutely delighted. The main thing is he’s safe and halfway back down the mountain,” she said.
