Three-and-a-half months after police action at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi, yoga guru Ramdev on Tuesday started his campaign against corruption, Bharat Swabhiman Yatra, from Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh to mobilise public opinion for bringing back black money stashed away in foreign banks. The yatra will pass through Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab — all poll-bound states — in the next two months before concluding at Chitrakoot on November 22.
Ramdev started the day with a yoga camp. In his speech, he said his campaign against black money would continue. He did not attack any political party or politician, but displayed what he claimed was a certificate issued by the Nepal government denying that his associate Acharya Balkrishna was born in that country.
Taking to reporters, Ramdev said he did not need a character certificate from anyone, and the police crackdown at Ramlila Maidan had not changed him. “Na badla hun, na badla lena chahta hun (I haven’t changed nor do I wish to take revenge),” he said.
During the yatra, Ramdev will visit district headquarters and hold yoga camps. Public meetings will be held in one tehsil per district. In Jhansi, he will hold the public meeting at Maurani on Wednesday. These public meetings will be called Gramin Jagrukta Sabha.
From Jhansi, Ramdev will go to Mahoba, Hamirpur, Kanpur, Unnao and Hardoi before reaching Farrukhabad on October 3. On October 7, he will start from Uttarakhand’s Pauri Garhwal district and cover Chamoli, Bageshwar, Pithgoragarh. He will take a break of three days after reaching Almora on October 16.
