Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai has disclosed his property details, becoming the first to do so among the members of the new cabinet.
According to the property report submitted to the Office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers, Bhattarai has a deposit of nearly Rs 4 lakh cash saved from his salary and allowances as the member of the Constituent Assembly and as Finance Minister for nine months in the then Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led government.
Similarly, he owns nearly two Ropani arid land in Khoplang village, Gorkha, which is his ancestral property. Major portion of his property is in the name of his daughter, Manushi. She has a deposit of Rs 10 lakh in her Rastriya Banijya Bank account.
PM Bhattarai stated in the report that the cash came from the sale of a house that was in the name of his wife Hisila Yami and the money provided to Manushi by her as help by maternal relatives during the Maoist insurgency. Bhattarai has also transferred the ownership of 7.12 Ropani cultivable plot and 10 Ropani arid land in Gorkha to Manushi. Both the land plots are Bhattarai’s ancestral property. Bhattarai uses a Scorpio jeep provided by the Maoist party. He does not possess any stock or jewels.
