Over 2,000 yoga teachers of Patanjali Yoga Peeth, the NGO founded by Baba Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna to propagate the Ramdev school of yoga and ayurvedic medicines in the Himalayan republic, as well as tens of thousands of followers are gearing up to welcome the duo with the red carpet despite the controversy engulfing them in India.
The two men will arrive in Nepal in October to hold mass yoga camps in Kathmandu, Birgunj and Janakpur cities. Their previous camps in Nepal have been attended by the President, Dr Ram Baran Yadav, and top politicians, including Maoist chief Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda.
Though Balkrishna currently faces CBI interrogation on the charge that he obtained an Indian passport with supporting educational certificates that were fakes, Nepal has remained sympathetic to the man whose parents are Nepalis, regarding it as a vengeful act by the Indian authorities.
"There has been a propaganda against Acharya Balkrishna, saying he was involved in criminal acts in Nepal," said Shaligram Singh, trustee of the Patanjali Yoga Peeth. "However, Nepal's home ministry issued a statement last month, saying he was never wanted for any criminal activities in Nepal."
To show that their faith in Balkrishna was intact, all the Patanjali Yoga Peeth centres - spread in all of Nepal's 75 districts - are celebrating his 39th birthday on Thursday with fervour. In Dhulikhel, Forest Minister Bhanu Bhakta Joshi planted saplings at the Yoga Village established last year while in the capital, Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal had accepted the invitation to be the chief guest and light the first lamp to launch a deepawali programme, Singh said.
