Search for missing US hiker to continue in Nepal

The family of Aubrey Sacco, who disappeared from Rasuwa in Nepal last year, said that it will not abandon the search for the missing girl.

The 24-year-old from Colorado of the US had gone to the Langtang National Park in Rasuwa for a solo trek on April 21, 2010. Records showed that she stayed at Namaste Hotel in Pahiro and left for Lama Hotel on April 22. She was last seen at Lama Hotel before leaving for Riverside Hotel, where she never reached.

“We continue our search in Nepal and are still hopeful for her return,” Aubrey’s mother Connie Sacco said.

For a year, a frantic search was carried out in concentrated areas of Thulo Syabru, Briddim, northwest region of Langtang and throughout Kathmandu for leads. “Unfortunately, however, a missing tourist is not good for Nepal’s tourism and Aubrey's posters being placed all over Kathmandu and the trails of Langtang are being removed,” Connie complained.

“The Sacco family appeals to the good people of Nepal to help them find their Aubrey.”

Aubrey’s father Paul Sacco, an attorney and municipal court judge in Fort Lupton, accused the government of Nepal of sweeping all the efforts under the rug, not doing enough to help families to find their missing daughter in Nepal. “We haven’t given up hope of finding our daughter, we will find her,” he said, “I had a dream last week. Aubrey was in a room sitting at a table and I stumbled upon her. She said to me "Daddy I'm not lost, I'm right here".

Officials at the District Police Office in Rasuwa said they failed to find out any leads over how the girl disappeared.

The family has mobilised three separate investigative missions—investigative, evidentiary and undercover – in Nepal to search Aubrey.

“The one year mark was like a punch in the chest, but we recovered and are moving forward with conviction. Although there is a lot of frustration, there is just no feeling of dread at our house and there has been no credible bad news. The journey to find Aubrey, however, is long and arduous. It takes time to connect to the right people (sometimes months) and a lot of time to follow clues and interview people.”

The US Embassy in Kathmandu has recently said in a statement that the Sacco family and it continued to search for information about Aubrey. “Despite thorough searches of the area, no information or evidence has been found to indicate what happened to her,” the statement said, asking anyone who may have seen her or knows what happened to her to contact it.
